I know what you’re saying….preparing for the Primary Election already?! Well, that’s how things work in our office! Believe it or not, it’s been 64 days since the City-School Election was held in November and we’re slowly starting the process all
over again because the Primary Election is just 146 days away and while that may seem like a long time, we truly must start this far in advance for several different
The first thing I did was send communications to the Central Committees (Franklin County Republican and Democrat parties) to highlight important info about the caucuses. The causes are not run or monitored by our office, but there
are some intersecting duties, so this communication was important. The next thing I did was to send letters/emails to all our polling places to remind them of this year’s elections dates and what we will need from them. Since the polling places
are not allowed to be open for their own business/events for two days, it is important for me to get those dates and information to them as soon as possible in the year!
I have also prepared graphics for the Facebook page (

) as part of my job is simple awareness. The graphics that I have prepared highlight filing deadlines for state, federal, and local positions that will be on the primary election ballot. Soon we will be reaching out to our Precinct Election Officials to see who is interested in working the elections this year and then slowly start scheduling them as well as training, etc. I have also created the schedule for our office to follow as
there are MANY deadlines we need to be aware of, evenings we are required to stay late (past normal Courthouse closing time) and even a Saturday that we must be open. I like to give my staff as much heads up on these dates as possible.
While our daily work lives aren’t filled with election preparations yet, they have begun and will continue to ramp up over the next several months! Until next time…
