Hoping for a Turning Point

I don’t see how the people of this country could ever get more polarized. It’s distracting us from more important things. The polarization is fed by two things. One is the obvious pleasure derived from anger and hate. The other is the algorithms that direct any content online based on previous interests, and that reinforces those interests rather than allowing our minds to explore different ideas. It appears that Kirk was murdered for having civil dialog with people he didn't agree with.

I was just thinking that instead of saying “God bless” to one who has sneezed, it may become fashionable to say “Charlie bless”. The Charlie KIrk phenomenon slipped under my radar. I had no idea what a big deal he and Turning Point USA were. Seeing videos of large demonstrations in Europe and Asia inspired by Kirk’s death was a wake-up call.

I find myself knowing the opinions of friends and acquaintances through third party sources. They do not dare talk about important issues with me, as if I might bite their heads off. What’s with that, besides lack of confidence in their positions? It's sad that this one guy who will give anyone a public platform to dispute his ideas draws so much hatred. Looking back, 1930s Germany could have used a guy like that.

I went back and watched several “debates” between Kirk and college students. I think he could have been more tactful and less combative. Maybe the intelligent students were edited out, but the arguments put forth by the students I saw certainly didn’t bode well for the future of our country. Who would employ these people?

So now Charlie is gone (I say like an old friend, which is a sudden fashion). There are some questions. I was glad to hear that his wife will take over leadership of TPUSA.

The polarization I mentioned mostly revolved around wokeness. That’s the distraction I was talking about. Doesn’t it seem rather trivial compared to mass murder? It’s almost like the murderers stirred up the woke pot to distract us. I remember Ben Shapiro doing an excellent job bashing the woke. I cheered him on even though I’m not a biologist. For some reason, it really gets some of the Christian right going so they can then forget the Gaza genocide.

Shapiro promptly pledged to take Kirk’s torch and lead our youth into his Judeo side of his Judeo/Christian zealotry. There’s a video of Charlie Kirk telling Ben Shapiro that the outsized support of the U.S. for Israel should be questioned two days before he was assassinated. Shapiro’s face reminded me of when I hear there are calves on the road.

Benjamin Netanyahu jumped all over this best friends routine. Realizing the power that Kirk had accumulated, he dove into the media frenzy minutes after the shot was fired. Charlie Kirk had recently turned down a large donation from Bibi to TPUSA.

Charlie Kirk and TPUSA hosted a debate about Israel and Gaza with pro-American, Dave Smith and Zionist, Josh Hammer in July. Dave Smith stuck to the issues. Josh Hammer said he was disgusted to be on the same stage as Dave Smith. They are both Jewish, by the way. This video was the first hint that the Zionists were losing Charlie Kirk.

Given that Charlie Kirk’s popularity dwarfs Donald Trump’s best days, and the fact that the Executive Branch now has legislative power, if Kirk was starting to doubt the ethics of The Greater Israel and the Gaza Riviera, he became useless as president.

In George Washington’s Farewell Address, he urged the nation to steer clear of permanent alliances or deep seated rivalries with foreign countries. Seems like good advice.
