coming up quickly and there are some important dates you need to be aware of.
1. Filing Deadline – The deadline for candidates to file the appropriate paperwork is
next Thursday, September 18th at 5PM. Candidates must file their paperwork with
the appropriate entity (City Clerk or School Board Secretary). If you need more
details, I urge you to reach out to those people ASAP.
2.Mailed Absentee Ballot – We are currently accepting absentee ballot requests to be
mailed. These can be submitted any time between now and October 20th. Keep in
mind that we are not able to mail absentee ballots until October 15th, but if you
want to receive a ballot in the mail, we urge you to submit your request as soon as
possible.
3.In-Person Absentee Voting – The first day that you are allowed to absentee vote in-
person is October 15th. You will be able to do this until November 3rd in the
Auditor’s office during normal business hours (8AM-4PM, Monday-Friday).
4.Pre-Registration Deadline – The last day that you can register to vote or update your
voter registration without having to provide proof of residency at the polls is
October 20th. By registering or updating your registration now, it will make voting at
the polls the easiest possible for you. You will, as always, have to provide proof of
identify in order to vote.
5.Election Day – Election Day is November 4th and polls will be open 7AM-8PM. Voting
locations will be the same as they were last November for the General Election.
As you can see, there are a lot of important dates coming up and we wanted to make sure
you are well informed. Also, make sure to follow along our Facebook page (Franklin County
Iowa Auditor) as there is lots of good information shared there! Until next time…
