Richard Larsen

Funeral services for Richard Larsen, of Hampton, will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, August 7, at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Church. Family graveside services will be held at a later date at the Coulter Cemetery. Woodley Funeral Home, Hampton, is entrusted with arrangements for Richard.

Richard Lee Larsen, 90, of Hampton, Iowa passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. He was born on November 26, 1934, in Marion Township in Franklin County, Iowa to Arthur Lewis and Esther (Johansen) Larsen.

Richard was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Coulter. He graduated from Franklin Consolidated class of 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army, served from 1956-1957 at Fort Niagara in Youngstown, NY.

 On March 28, 1956, Richard was united in marriage to Frances Mae Olk at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer. Together they raised two daughters and one son on the family farm south of Coulter. They celebrated 63 years together before Frances’s passing in 2019.

After serving his time in the military, Richard and Frances moved back to the family farm, where Richard resumed taking over the farming operation as he had previously done when he was sixteen, due to the unexpected passing of his father. He farmed corn and soybeans for years along with a cattle operation and eventually raised pigs. Recognized as a Master Pork Producer one year. Retired from farming in 1982 and soon after Frances and him started a business, Larsen’s Collectibles. They traveled all over participating in antique shows, where they would set up a booth to sell and buy antiques. Richard loved to tell stories about the places and people they met at these shows. 

Richard enjoyed keeping himself busy with numerous tasks, whether it be preparing his tractor and trailer to ride in parades around the Franklin County area, attending the Franklin County Fair, woodworking (crosses), collecting license plates, refurbishing antique farm equipment, participating in plow matches, and taking care of his acreage. He loved to talk to people, whether he knew you or not he would strike up a conversation. He was a loving father and grandfather.

Richard is survived by his daughter Linda (Terry) Hainzinger of Fenton, daughter Audrey (Rick) Schmitt of Latimer, son Alan (Cristie) Larsen of Coulter, granddaughter Brandi (Ryan) Harms of Fenton, grandsons Matt (Sarah) Greinert of Estherville, Ryan (Bryann Sullivan) Fitz of Des Moines, Justin Fitz of Adel, Johnathan Larsen of Beaumont, Texas, Jordan (Mel) Larsen of Missoula, Montana, great-granddaughters Rachel, Hazel, and Alexandria, great-grandsons Hayden and Cooper. Sister-in-law Marcia Larsen of Clarion, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Frances Mae Larsen, brother Sherwood Larsen, sister Bonnie Bruns, nephews Doug Bruns, Denny Bruns and Lee Bruns, uncles Myron & Don Larsen, parents Arthur Lewis and Esther Larsen.
