Homecoming week reflects pride in community

Editorial: Homecoming week at Hampton-Dumont-CAL begins Sunday and there’s no better time to show not only the school’s pride in itself, but the community’s pride towards the school as well.
The red and black comes out throughout the community during the week. Windows, streets and yards don the Bulldogs’ colors while students celebrate the occasion with a week’s worth of activities and dress up days.
Parades, sporting events and pep rallies give students and citizens a chance to cheer on various programs at the school and also celebrate the past, present and future successes of the district.
The word “pride” gets tossed around a lot during homecoming week and with good purpose. The response of the students and H-D-CAL areas towards homecoming week shows that this is a community that supports its district. The red and black clothing, the crowds at the games and the people that line the streets for the parade provide clear visuals that the district is backed by a strong, passionate community.
The pride in the district and the community as a whole is further driven home by the many alumni that return to show continued support and appreciation to the district from which they graduated.
This week, go out to a sporting event, attend the parade, wear the school colors because those displays help further show residents and visitors alike that this is a community that prides itself on its school district.
