Fireworks were the explosive topic of discussion during the Hampton City Council's workshop and regular meeting on Monday, May 22 and Thursday, May 25.

With new state laws legalizing the sale and use of fireworks, cities across the state are updating their policies to figure out where they stand on the issue of fireworks within the city limits.

The current ordinance of Hampton disallows the sale and use of fireworks, which will have to be tweaked to fall into compliance with the new state law. Over the course of the workshop and the regular meeting, the council debated the best policy for the city to adopt.

The entire story appears in the May 31 print and online editions of the Hampton Chronicle.
