Dumont artist to display new work in February

     Dumont resident and artist Kirk Hovenga has never painted snow before. Now, with winter set in and the remnants of ice and snow still frozen on the ground, the time has come.
     In his new collection, “Mesmerizing Landscapes,” Hovenga, 56, tried his hand at experimenting with snow, saying that he was “surprised” by the results.
     In addition to being an experiment with snow techniques, Mesmerizing Landscapes builds on Hovenga’s passion for the Iowa landscape.
     “On a drive, I constantly look at the light and land,” Hovenga said. “Going outside and walking around is comforting. It seems like everything I see might be a potential painting.”
     Hovenga says that the Iowa landscape has always been an inspiration to him, describing that the land, light and seasons are “never the same.”
