AGWSR within a game of third straight state berth

ACKLEY – With a couple of plays at the plate in the third inning, AGWSR slid its way into the Class 1A regional final game in an eventual 5-1 win over Colo-Nesco on Friday, July 10.
The Cougars found themselves in an early 1-0 deficit as their ace, Ashley Sicard, gave up a lead-off double to Hannah Buseman and later a single to Mackenna Ruffcorn.
“We wanted to be aggressive and see what they could do,” AGWSR co-coach Scott O’Brien said. “Put a little pressure on the defense. We sent Alana (Groninga) right away on that first one – a good throw and they might have had her. The ball was high and she was under it.”
