A dozen people gathered at Seven Stars Family Restaurant last Thursday morning to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Hampton Prayer Breakfast group. Coffee, eggs, God and cupcakes were all part of the festivities marking the milestone for the local staple.

“I’ve been going for as long as I can remember,” said breakfast-goer Fannie Mae Rover. “I like it. It’s a break in the week, and it’s just a good way to start the day.”

The group meets each Thursday at Seven Stars in Hampton for an hour of food, prayer and devotions. Group leader C. Stewart Riggins said people typically start rolling in around 7 a.m., order breakfast and socialize for a while. A local pastor then provides ashort message before ending the session with a closing prayer.

“Then after that we pay our bills and wander home,” said Riggins. “We’re thankful to have a place like Seven Stars to get together like this and have it.”
