HAMPTON – When the day started for Hampton-Dumont’s wrestling team, it looked promising for the Bulldogs.
But after one of the Bulldogs didn’t make weight, it left them having to work hard while giving up a couple of weight classes since they’ve been without a 106-pounder since the season started.
The result was a 3-2 record at its dual tournament, opening with a couple of victories against Hudson and Northwood-Kensett, before losing against East Buchanan and Central Springs, the last of which went unbeaten on the day, before finishing strong with a win against Lake Mills.
“The lack of a 106- and 160-pounder definitely contributed to the dual losses we suffered on Saturday,” H-D coach Nick Bretz said. “Also, we received forfeits at 113, 170 and 220 in a few duals and those are weights that generally get pins. I know the points you get for pins and forfeits are the same, but pins build momentum, and momentum can change a dual.”
