Davies flip flops, decides to seek another term on city council
Jim Davies, who represents Ward II on the Hampton City Council, has officially submitted candidate nomination papers and will seek re-election to the council. Davies had announced over the summer than he would not be seeking another term in office and instead would be focusing on increased work duties and personal pursuits.
Davies has served on the council in two different periods - first from February 1992 until March 1999, then from January 2010 until present.
With his official entry into the city council election, there are now a total of four candidates for office that have officially declared their candidacy. The others are at-large Council Member Dick Lukensmeyer and two candidates for mayor, Brook Boehmler and former Hampton mayor Diane Weldin.
The only seat up for grabs that does not have any candidates to date is that of Craig Eckhardt, who represents Ward IV.
The city council election will be held on Nov. 5. The final day for potential candidates to file for nomination is Sept. 19 at 5 p.m.
