Widen retires from CAL; will start new role with SAI, IDE

Superintendent Dwight Widen capped a 31-year career in public education Tuesday when he bid farewell to the CAL Community School District.
“It will be very surreal when I hand over the keys,” he said.
The veteran school administrator, teacher and coach announced his retirement plans last November. He was hired by CAL in 2012 and served in a dual role as the district’s elementary principal and superintendent, a common trait for administrators at small schools.
However, wearing multiple hats didn’t bother the long-time educator in the slightest.
