Warhawks Cross Country has Solid Showing in Newman Catholic Invitational

MASON CITY - The West Fork boys and girls' cross country teams had a solid showing in the Newman Catholic Invitation at North Area Community College on Tuesday, September 2. The boys' team finished in sixth place out of 12 teams with a score of 138. Sophomore Kaden Graf was the first Warhawk to finish, as he finished in 15th place and posted a score of 15 with a time of 19 minutes, 19.4 seconds. Sophomore Kyler Harley was the second Warhawk to finish, as he finished in 24th place and posted a score of 23 with a personal record time of 20 minutes, 10.9 seconds. Senior Eli Muhlenbruch was the third Warhawk to finish as he finished in 27th place and posted a score of 26 with a time of 20 minutes, 14.6 seconds. Junior Max Martinek was the fourth Warhawk to finish, as he finished in 33rd place and posted a score of 32 with a time of 20 minutes, 47.1 seconds. Junior Owen Wedmore was the fifth Warhawk to finish, as he finished in 43rd place and posted a score 42 with a time of 21 minutes, 1.3 seconds. Head coach of the Warhawks boys' team Caleb Hovenga likes how his team has looked to after the first meet of the season.
"I'm very optimistic about where we are at and where we are going," Hovenga said. "We got one under our belt and saw some good teams we are going to be running with for the rest of the season. I'm really excited to get going again next week."
The girls' team finished in seventh place out of nine teams with a score of 174. Freshman Makenna Dick was the first Warhawk to finish, as she finished in eighth place and posted a score of 5 with a time of 21 minutes, 36.9 seconds. Head coach of the Warhawks girls' team Laura Huber expressed how proud she was of Dick.
"I am so proud of Makenna," Huber said. "She has put in a lot of hard work over the summer training, and that hard work is defiantly paying off for her."
Junior Evelyn Hitzhusen was the second Warhawk to finish, as she finished in 32nd place and posted a score of 26 with a time of 24 minutes, 1.6 seconds. Freshman Adayr Wiseman was the third Warhawk to finish, as she finished in 57th place and posted a score of 45 with a time of 27 minutes, 34.7 seconds. Sophomore Josi Janssen was the fourth Warhawk to finish, as she finished in 60th place and posted a score of 47 with a time of 28 minutes, 26.7 seconds. Freshman Whitley Otten was the fifth Warhawk to finish, as she finished in 66th place and scored 51 with a time of 29 minutes, 19.4 seconds. Both the boys and girls' cross country teams ran in their second meet of the season in the Belmond-Klemme invite on Tuesday, September 9, and their next meet is the home meet at Ridge Stone Golf Club on Monday, September 15 at 5:30 p.m.
