DES MOINES – More firsts for West Fork’s wrestling team put the Warhawks on the wrestling radar after last week’s Class 1A state meet.
Coach Jared Arbegast’s two wrestlers, his son Jarel and senior Jake Hansen, both had top-three finishes as West Fork compiled 37 team points for 17th place, the school’s best in its short history.
The biggest mark made by the Warhawks was when Jarel topped the defending state champion in his weight class on a last-second takedown to earn the state final.
He went on to drop the finals against Taylan Entriken of Hudson by 8-4 decision when Arbegast got a late reversal and then was reversed again at the last second.
The entire story appears in the Feb. 22 print and online editions of the Hampton Chronicle.
