Details about a special program aimed at enticing military veterans to Franklin County became clearer last week following an update at the board of supervisors meeting Dec. 22.

Franklin County Development Association (FCDA) Director Karen Mitchell met with board and relayed new information about Home Base Iowa. The program allows local governments and businesses to develop incentive packages that attract veterans into their communities, in turn bolstering the workforce with quality employees. Franklin County is currently developing a package with the hopes of earning designation as a Home Base Iowa Community.

The current incentive proposal will be turned over to the county attorney for review. If approved, qualifying veterans would be eligible to receive a $1,000 stipend if they move to Franklin County.
