J.D. Scholten, a candidate for Iowa’s 4th Congressional District, brought his custom Winnebago through Hampton Saturday.
Scholten, (D-Sioux City), stopped at Rustic Brew as part of his tour of all 39 counties in the district ahead of the June primaries.
The former professional baseball player said he took the leap into politics following the 2016 Presidential Election and Inauguration. Shortly before his grandmother passed away, she told Scholten he needed “come home and take care of the farm.” When Democratic Congressional candidate Kim Weaver dropped out of the election for incumbent Steve King’s District Four seat, Scholten saw his chance to “take care of the farm.”
“I couldn’t sit on the sidelines anymore,” he said. “I launched a campaign last July and it’s been nonstop ever since.”
