Iowa Speaker of the House, Linda Upmeyer, became the first ever chairwoman of the Republican Legislative Campaign Committee (RLCC) for the 2018 election cycle last week.
Upmeyer, District 54 Representative whose area covers Franklin and Cerro Gordo Counties, was announced as the chairwoman last Tuesday.
The RLCC is a caucus of the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) that tasks itself to helping elect additional Republicans to state legislatures. Upmeyer said she has served on and worked with the RLCC for many years and believes that her previous experience will help her succeed in the position.
"When it comes to this kind of work, much of your success lies in the relationships you build," she said. "I think we have been pretty successful in some of our initiatives and that prepares you to lead these folks."
RSLC President Matt Walter in a press release said he was excited to have Upmeyer as chairwoman and her understanding of the Republican party will equate to success for the RSLC and RLCC.
