United Way studies Hampton's community needs

United Way of North Central Iowa has released a report summarizing a community conversation that took place last December to discuss the needs of the Hampton community.
United Way met with a dozen Hampton residents on December 6 as part of the region wide program to talk about their vision for the community and the barriers that need to be overcome. This helps United Way determine what kind of projects they should focus their fundraising efforts.
"We are trying to go into communities that we cover, gathering community members together to ask them what kind of community they want to live in," said Community Impact Director Jen Butler. "We really want the funding that we raise to go to the needs in our region."
Among the most prominent issues brought up at the meeting was the lack of affordable housing, which is a common theme throughout the region. Most homes in the region are out of people's price range, either because they are too new or because they are so old that they require expensive renovations to be considered safe.
