Supervisors learn about proposed Rowan grain elevator expansion

A proposed plan to build a 1.85 million-bushel grain storage facility near Rowan could invest up to $10 million in Franklin County if everything goes according to plan.

     The Franklin County Board of Supervisors met with NEW Cooperative Grain Manager Mark Walter at its meeting Monday and discussed preliminary blueprints for the facility. The company would like to build the four-bin elevator east of Rowan inside Franklin County by Sept. 1, 2015, pending approval from its local board of directors.

     Farmers Cooperative Company of Dows and Rowan became part of NEW Cooperative last Friday when the members voted to merge with the Fort Dodge-based company. The change takes effect next month.
