Statewide grants to target broadband installation in rural Iowa

Franklin County communities may receive a broadband boost thanks to new grant funding introduced by Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds late last year.

Reynolds in December announced the availability of $1.3 million in grant funding through the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) to improve broadband access for Iowans, particularly those in underserved areas.

Service providers and local government entities can apply for grant funding equal to 15 percent of a broadband project in the targeted areas. Most Franklin County communities are eligible for the funding.
