South Side receives grant for healthy initiatives

     The South Side Elementary School Walking Club is the recipient of a $350 grant from the Shopko Foundation, for its dedication to healthy initiatives.
     Funds from the grant were used to create chain bracelets, which feature a dog tag and plastic feet, per mile completed, while a part of the club.
     “Kids get very excited for the walking club,” said Sheryl Borcherding, Hampton-Dumont Guidance Counselor.
     This is the third year that the walking club has been active for South Side. Last year, 157 students participated in the club; out of 268 students in the school, over 75 percent of students are currently participating, Borcherding said.
