On Sunday, May 20 the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office received a call that reminded residents of a decades-old local cold case.
Human remains were recovered in the 22000 block of 275th Street—near Mason City and North Iowa Area Community College—and were sent to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny. An autopsy was performed a few days later, the results of which are being withheld from the public.
According to Mike Krapfl with the Iowa Department of Public Safety, due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, it is unclear when specifics on the body’s location and recovery will be released.
