Sheffield Police Chief: one year ‘part attorney, part animal catcher, [and] all that stuff’

This past October 16 marks the one-year anniversary of Sheffield Police Chief Sam Cain’s time on the beat. After 365 days of all-nighters, patrols and dispatch calls, Cain’s narrowed his role down to three categories.
“You’re part attorney, part animal catcher, [and] all that stuff,” Cain said.
The 24-year-old police chief and Sheffield native looks back on his first year in the position as one full of learning opportunities, not only in memorizing Iowa code, but also in developing as a community leader.
“At first, there was a lot of things you don’t know as a patrol officer,” Cain said. “A lot of responsibilities you have to pick up as well.”
