With shoppers sprinting down the aisles and grabbing items off shelves at a rapid pace, Hampton's Fareway store looked a little like Black Friday on a March Wednesday morning.
But there was a good cause behind the frenzy, as those shoppers were collecting groceries to benefit the local pantries as part of Franklin County Farm Bureau's seventh annual Breakfast Battle.
The breakfast battle challenged 10 teams of four to race around the store and find the listed ingredients to make a meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner based on a menu as quickly as possible. The cost of the items had to fall between $45 and $50 and time penalties were issued for falling short of the target or overspending. The bags would then be distributed to 10 families in the county. The groceries were given to Franklin County Food Pantry in Hampton, Immanuel UCC in Latimer and Zion-St. John Lutheran Food Pantry in Sheffield for distribution.
After finishing a run good enough for third place, the team representing FSA was all smiles.
