Robert Dale Swieter

Robert Dale Swieter passed away on April 13, 2023. Born on July 3, 1931, in Geneva, IA to Dick and Grace (Meyer) Swieter, Bob married Shirley Thielen at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Latimer, Iowa on March 9, 1952. Bob and Shirley enjoyed seventy years of marriage.

Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1951-1955. During the Korean War, he was stationed on the U.S.S. Kenneth Whiting. After dutifully serving in the Navy, Robert lived and worked in the Hampton, IA area until moving to Clarion, IA in 1979. He was employed in the seed corn business for many years and greatly enjoyed his interactions with co-workers and farmers.

Bob loved keeping up with local news (subscriptions to all the area newspapers were a must), tracking the ever-changing Iowa weather, and the occasional bowl of ice cream as an evening snack. He especially relished visiting with his many relatives and catching up on family happenings. Bob had a quiet demeanor, easygoing manner, and quick smile.

Robert is survived by his sons, Douglas (Jean) Swieter of Mason City, IA, and Joel (Chris) Swieter of Gold Canyon, AZ, daughter Brenda (Todd) Heilskov, of West Des Moines, IA, grandchildren Crystal Neubauer, Erin Neubauer, Stephanie Swieter, Stacy (Michael) Frazier, Keegan (Amber) Swieter, Hannah Heilskov, Madison (Joe Petersen) Heilskov, Morgan Degner, 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all whom Bob loved. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, parents, Dick and Grace Swieter, brothers, Johnny Swieter, Harvey Swieter, Kenneth Swieter, Carl Swieter, and sister Marian Meinberg.

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 AM on Friday, April 21, 2023, at the First Lutheran Church in Clarion. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 10:30 AM at the First Lutheran Church with Pastor Katie Pals officiating. Following a church luncheon, burial will take place at the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton.

Memorials may be made in Bob’s name to the First Lutheran Church in Clarion, IA.
