A $1.4 million makeover at North Side Elementary is nearing the finish line as the new school year approaches.
“Right now, we’re about a week ahead of schedule,” said Hampton-Dumont Superintendent Todd Lettow. “That’s a pretty good feeling.”
Extensive updates were needed at the building to accommodate the kindergarten class’ planned move from South Side this fall. The project started after classes dismissed in May and continued at a steady clip throughout the summer, Lettow said. Many big-ticket items like a new heating and cooling system, floor tiling, electrical updates and asbestos abatement were included in the blueprints.
Some large classrooms were split up with new walls to create space for special education programs and other needs.
