The Franklin County Relay for Life has raised $80,871.85 and counting, making it the highest-grossing one yet.
Between a $10,000 grant, more than $50,000 of donations and sales at the event, $20,000 raised by the KLMJ Golf Challenge and $8,000 in pledges from Drew Hueberger’s free throw fundraiser, the Relay beat the Franklin County record of money to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Organizer Sheri Bogue, Sheffield, said about half of the pledged money and one team’s fundraising has not yet arrived.
A $10,000 Foster and Evelyn Barkema Charitable Trust grant was a new source of income this year, and the golf tournament had more sponsors than ever before. Those led to the spike in money raised. Collections will wrap up before the American Cancer Society’s fiscal year ends Aug. 31.
