Redemption comes for West Fork track

DES MOINES – Competition was all West Fork’s Lexi Jones needed to finish state runner-up in the long jump.
Jones matched her career-best with a 5 foot, 3 inch clearance to provide the best finish among many great performances for the Warhawks at the Class 1A state meet.
Coach Ashley Sears’ team finished 15th with 20 team points. Eight were by Jones with her leaping abilities getting 5-3 on her third attempt and showing emotion thereafter.
“I was close to be tears, to be honest because last year, I was a freshman and I wanted to do better than I did,” Jones said. “I didn’t do very well then and I came here thinking I needed to do better than last time and I did..."
