Franklin County Conservation is hoping a recent habitat improvement project will transform a little-known creek into a fishing hot spot.
Lambertsen Excavating spent last week reshaping a 500-foot bank along Hartgrave Creek inside Deer Meadow Wildlife Area. The project added 1,000 tons of rock to the bank, which will reduce soil erosion and improve fishing conditions.
The bank at Hargrave Creek was a top priority for the department, according to Ned Parker, resource manager at Franklin County Conservation.
“When we’d get the flash flooding events, it would wash away huge chunks of the bank and it was eating it away rapidly,” he explained. “That’s a problem because it increases the [cloudiness] of the water, so this will clean it up and be better for fishing.”
