Pork plant raises concerns for new hog confinements

     As the Prestage Foods pork processing facility nears approval, concerns continue to grow about how the area will be impacted by the project.
     Even more than the issues raised by a sudden influx of new people, area residents are worried the facility will encourage pork producers to build additional hog confinements.
     Once opened, it’s projected that the plant will bring in 10,000 hogs per day for processing. Prestage says it can supply 60 percent of the daily requirement and has made agreements with other suppliers to provide the rest.
