Persistence pays off: Senior assures final state berth

OSAGE – Nothing was certain going into her last race at the state-qualifying meet on Thursday, May 15, so Hampton-Dumont’s Paige Wragge made sure she was heading to the state meet by anchoring the 4x100-meter relay to a second-place finish.

The sprinter finished third in the 100 and anchored the 4x200 to fourth – and only the top two spots were automatic qualifiers.

Not knowing for sure whether she was making the trip to Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Wragge held off a hard-charging Garner-Hayfield/Ventura anchor to earn the runner-up finish in 52.70 seconds.

“It feels amazing,” Wragge said after clinching the berth....
