LATIMER – A chance at history for CAL’s football team fell just short on Friday, Sept. 12.

The Cadets, tied at 14 with Rockford, gave up a late third-quarter touchdown to fall to the Warriors 20-14, halting their chance at ending one of the state’s longest consecutive losing streaks.

“They understood we had our chances in the first quarter, had the ball twice in the red zone and didn’t get the job done,” CAL coach Scott Striegel said. “When you have those opportunities, you have to take advantage.

“(We) had them in long situations and didn’t close the door. But the kids came out and played lights out, they were physical and we matched up and went toe-to-toe.”
