New owner hopes to restore jail to former glory

     A local historic landmark is getting a new lease on life thanks to a big investment from an Arizona man.
     Mark Gudmundsen recently purchased the former Franklin County Sheriff’s Residence and Jail located near Hampton’s historic downtown district. He hopes to transform the building into a role-playing attraction for people who want to experience incarceration without actually committing a crime.
     Visitors will be able to get locked up for an extended period, depending on how much they want to pay. Gudmundsen said the experience will be one of kind.
     “It’s something so unique and different that’s being done nowhere else,” he said. “There’s no one offering this in the entire world.”
