Local health agencies have ramped up efforts to curb tobacco use among Franklin County teenagers and adults.

Franklin County Wellness and Community and Family Resources started a local anti-tobacco campaign late last fall in response to a pair of health polls. Tobacco use among teens and adults was higher here compared to statewide averages, which spurred the county-wide outreach campaign.

Community and Family Resouces is a Fort Dodge-based agency that provides prevention services to a 10-county area, including Franklin County.

“The numbers were significant enough to where we thought we needed to start something up again to get the word out about our services,” said Sean O’Connor, prevention specialist with Community and Family Resources. “We want to really teach people not only about the cost of tobacco, but the also the toll it takes on lives.”
