Moving monsters: Seabee sets company record with 40,000 lb. cylinders

They were long, they were heavy and they were certainly hard to move.

     “As far as I know, this is the first time we've made anything this large—certainly this heavy, anyway," said Dale Glenn, manufacturing engineer at Seabee Cylinders & Chrome.

     The local manufacturer set a company record last week when employees said goodbye to a pair of 40,000-pound cylinders made at its plant in Hampton. The behemoths needed to be moved onto semi trailers by special equipment – called a “rigger” – trucked in from Cedar Falls by a company that specializes in transporting heavy machinery.
