Marching, flags get PE waiver

HAMPTON – Earning a physical education waiver for athletics is nothing new.

However, starting this 2013-14 school year, those who perform in marching band, chamber choir and flags will earn one, too.

Hampton-Dumont principal Steve Madson said that the school looked at time spent involved in physical activity matched the same amount of time spent in a physical education (PE) class.

“We were trying to give kids the opportunity that if an activity that they are spending as many minutes in physical activity as PE,” Madson said. “We look at time spent. Are we providing as much activity? We’ll give credit.”
