Since he was 15, Jeff Spear dreamed of owning a 1955 Chevy Del Ray.
Not a standard one, though. He wanted to hot rod it – make it louder, more powerful and uniquely his own.
It seemed he and his wife Tracy had gotten their chance when they found and bought the car at an auction in 2013. It had a factory fuel exhaust and two-barrel carburetor 265 V6 engine. The India ivory and harvest gold exterior paint was worn, and the regal turquoise and India ivory interior was rusted and ripped.
Then, an auction guest informed them they got more than they bid for. Of the 1.7 million cars of this model, 147 had this color combination. Its  NASCAR-approved one-piece tubular frame was unusual, too. The corner and center bumper guards were extras originally, adding to the rarity of the car.
