Little Free Library coming to Latimer this summer

One local woman is hoping to spread her love of books through the addition of a tiny library in downtown Latimer.

     The Latimer City Council recently granted Val Plagge permission to build a small structure on city-owned property sometime this year. Plagge described the apparatus as an “oversized birdhouse,” and said it will house a small collection of books for both children and adults. The project is part of a worldwide effort called Little Free Library that aims at spreading literacy across the globe.

     “There’s no library in town. Rather than having kids cross the highway to go to the one in Coulter, I thought this would be a good alternative,” Plagge said.

            According to their web site, Little Free Library began in Wisconsin five years ago and has since branched out to nearly 12,000 locations world wide.
