Linemen give boost to running backs who have stepped up

HAMPTON – From the moment Hampton-Dumont got the football, it was established that the Bulldogs’ running backs were being given plenty of big holes to run through.
And the two juniors and sophomore who have filled in for the two seniors who are out with injuries figured it out quickly in a 40-14 homecoming win over Osage on Friday, Sept. 25.
H-D rolled up 302 ground yards and mixed in with three timely touchdown passes, coach Jerry Shafrath’s team improved to 3-2 overall, 1-1 in Class 2A District 2.
“I thought the offensive line created an advantage,” Shafrath said. “We knew they were small inside there. We were able to execute, knew where our blocks were, knew where the holes were going to be and ran through the hole. I think it makes a difference...."
