The Hampton City Council received some positive news last Thursday when an estimate for reconstruction of the library’s curved brick wall came in roughly $31,000 less than originally anticipated.
Engineer Ben Wolf met with the council to discuss new plans for the wall, which was deemed unfixable this spring when an exterior bulge and old masonry work were declared beyond the point of repair. The discovery temporarily delayed restoration work and raised the estimated price tag by $91,000.
However, Wolf said he and contractor Larry Adams were able to find cost savings of around $31,000. Now, complete reconstruction of the wall is expected to cost approximately $196,000.
