Loud library riles local citizen

To the Editor:
I’ve been in this community for 26 years and have been to many public libraries. I have never seen one quite like the Hampton Public Library. It is louder than most any business that you will walk into in Hampton. The librarians are chatting amongst themselves, with the UPS driver or with just about anyone who wants to chat. Most of the time the conversation has nothing to do with the library.
One librarian has her kids and grandkids come in on a regular basis and it gets especially loud then. Listening to them talk like babies and other stuff doesn’t belong in a place where people go to read newspapers, magazines and do computer work.
The only time they “whisper” is when they don’t want you to hear what they are saying, otherwise it is at the top of their lungs. Isn’t a library supposed to be fairly quiet?
