Letter to the Editor

‘Tis of Thee
Letter to the editor:
Two more people. One, an Iowan displaying our nation’s flag disrespectfully, and the other, an NFL player choosing not to stand for our nation’s anthem; both hiding behind the right to freedom of speech.
To thee I say: either become informed and vote for change or simply get out. Both are rights as well. Mrs. Clinton or Mr. Trump, if you want to deport anyone, start with these two. I hear the Isle of Elba is nice this time of year.
Those who are not proud to state our pledge of allegiance – who use our flag instead of admiring it, and who are not brought to occasional tears at graceful renditions of our anthem – are clearly ignorant as to the significance and symbolism all three represent.
They are not symbols of our government these people disagree with, but of our pride in being the greatest country in the world. They stand for all those who gave their all —too many with their lives — to provide us with the freedoms and rights many use to defile forgotten sacrifices.
Such acts of disrespect diminish those sacrifices we true Americans have, and will not forget. Everyone’s voice should be heard, but not at the cost of everything this country has achieved, and those who have toiled, just to allow you to do so.
Now my turn. Shame on these two and all those who are like-minded.
     Let Freedom Ring.
More than sincerely,
