Latimer considers establishing new TIF zone for Alliant proposal

Deal hinges on tax code valuation
     With Alliant’s interest in purchasing four lots on the south side of the Latimer Industrial Park, city mayor and council are enlisting the help of the North Iowa Area Council of Governments (NIACOG) to address possible methods of funding to cover they city’s share of costs in prepping the site to be shovel ready.
     Two weeks ago, Alliant, in conjunction with Latimer Development, approached the council with an offer to purchase four lots on the Latimer Industrial Park, which would be used over the next several years as storage space, maintenance, assembly space and management operations, for the upcoming expansion of the Whispering Willow Wind Farm. At least one of the lots will be a structure for operations, much like the facility on the south side of Franklin County, before Iowa Falls.
     The caveat to Alliant’s potential investment of approximately $1 million on the property is that Latimer will have to develop the lots further to accommodate the corporation’s use of the space.
