Former U.S. congressman and Alexander native Tom Latham announced his lymphoma diagnosis Jan. 6 on his verified Facebook page.
“We are working with a great team of doctors and have a special treatment plan in place,” he wrote. “I am very confident that with their help I will beat this and be back to full speed soon.”
Lymphoma is a cancer that starts in cells of the body’s immune system, according to the American Cancer Society. The post did not specify a form.
Many of the page’s nearly 7,000 followers are longtime friends and supporters, Latham wrote, so he wanted to share the news. He thanked them in advance for prayers and positive thoughts.
