One of Hampton’s most popular parks will receive a much needed upgrade this year if one local group accomplishes its goal.
The Kiwanis Club of Hampton recently launched a fundraising campaign for new playground equipment at Harriman Park. The group hopes to raise $85,000 in the next few months to pay for the upgrades, which are hoped for completion sometime this fall.
The project will commemorate Kiwanis International’s 100th anniversary while simultaneously filling a local need. The playground equipment at Harriman Park is around 30 years old and has started showing its age recently.
“Harriman Park is an area that’s heavily used and we’re really excited to see this project through,” said Kiwanis Club President Becky Strother. “It’s been fun hearing feedback from the community. A lot of the people we’ve talked to were just as excited about the project as us.”
