The United States must strengthen its role in the Middle East to protect Americans against the growing threat of Islamic extremists both at home and abroad, according to a strategy explained last week by Congressman Steve King.
The longtime Republican lawmaker met with members of the Hampton Rotary on Feb. 18 and criticized America’s recent attempts to combat the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS). King outlined his own five-point plan that he believed would eradicate the terrorist organization, which included strengthening America’s military involvement in Iraq, Syria and other Middle Eastern countries.
King felt President Barack Obama and other leaders weren’t doing enough to stop the militant group from spreading beyond its current territory.
“They declared war on us. We’re at war with them,” he said. “They see Western civilization as the enemy of radical Islamic jihad and the enemy of Sharia Law. They will kill Americans wherever they can find us, and they will kill Westerners wherever they can find them for the simple reason that we aren’t them.”
