King discusses Middle East crisis at Hampton town hall

Local residents came loaded with questions and worried minds Oct. 13 during a town hall meeting hosted by U.S. Congressman Steve King in Hampton.
     A large portion of discussion focused on foreign policy and ongoing turmoil in the Middle East. King spoke unprompted on the topics, asserting that America’s actions were failing to stop terrorist groups like the Islamic State (IS) and Assad regime in Syria.
     King believed Russian intervention was exacerbating problems in the region. He blamed President Barack Obama for failing to develop a strong foreign policy that eradicated rogue groups. He said the president’s plan to fund the Free Syrian Army and combat was destined for disaster, despite originally supporting it.
