Joan Marie Whitmore

Joan Marie Whitmore, 84, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Sunday June 28, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa.
Funeral services will take place Thursday (July 2) at 10:30 a.m. at the Hampton United Methodist Church in Hampton.  Visitation will take place Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton, Iowa.  Burial will take place at the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton.  Pastor Corby Jo Johnson will be officiating.
She was born March 11, 1931, to Clifford and Ruth (Crawford) Stayner in Hampton, Iowa.  Joan grew up on farms near Chapin and Hampton. She started school in the fall of 1936 and graduated in 1947 from Hampton High School.  After graduation Joan attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City.
Joan worked at Farmers Hybrid, where she met Gerald (Whitey) Whitmore and she also worked for several businesses in Hampton.  She was united in marriage on February 18, 1951, at the Methodist Church in Chapin, Iowa.  She was a 50 year Rebecca Lodge member and a continued member of the Hampton Senior Center, American Legion Auxiliary and Hampton United Methodist Church.  Joan enjoyed bowling, trips to Branson, Missouri, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Family members left to remember Joan are her husband Gerald (Whitey) Whitmore, son Dean (Ginger) Whitmore, daughter Barbara (James) Quasdorf all of Hampton, brother James (Carol) Stayner of Kellogg, grandchildren Shawn (Terri) Whitmore, Amy (Joe) Smith of Ankeny, Iowa, Kyra (Evan) Babcock of Jefferson, Sarah Baird, John (Amanda) Quasdorf of Hampton, Jackie (David) Schott of Mason City, four great granddaughters, six great grandsons, a nephew and family, and a niece and family all of Ankeny. 
She was preceded in death by her parents.
