James Burmester, 68

James Burmester, 68, of Dumont, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 25, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hampton with a come and go luncheon to follow at Maynes Grove Lodge from 12-3 p.m. Visitation was from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, January 24 at the Sietsema-Atkinson Funeral Home in Hampton. Masks and social distancing will be required. In lieu of flowres, memorials may be directed to the Franklin County Fair, St. Paul Lutheran Church of St. John's Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be live streamed on St. Paul Lutheran Church Facebook page. 

James M. Burmester was born on January 23, 1952 in Hampton, Iowa to Norlyn and Carol (Pralle) Burmester. He graduated from Hampton High School in 1970 and then attended Hawkeye Community College for a year. On October 14, 1972, Jim was united in marriage to Christy Simons at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Hampton. Jim was a lifetime farmer while having other numerous jobs. He worked at Northrup King in Waterloo, Hampton and Eldora. He also drove a school bus route and to sporting activities.

Jim was a trustee for the Ingham Township, board member of the FSA and Farm Bureau, member of Pheasants Forever, the Iowa River Riders and the Hansell United Methodist Church. Jim enjoyed camping, riding his motorcycle, snowmobiling and attending the Franklin County Fair and the Iowa State Fair. He took great pride in attending his kids and grandkids’ activities.

Jim is survived by his wife Christy of Dumont, children Justin Burmester of Dumont, Stacey (Chad) Uhlenhopp of Hansell and Clinton (Jill) Burmester of Hampton, brother Glen (Shelli) Burmester of West Des Moines, sister-in-law Kathleen Dana of Milford, grandchildren Drew, Ty and Coy Uhlenhopp and Cael, Blaek and Wesley Burmester, several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Daryl and Steven, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Wayne and Jacqueline Lam.
