ITC Midwest to host power line project informational meeting on Oct. 18

An informational public meeting and hearing is scheduled for Oct. 18 in Hampton so local residents can get information and ask questions about a power line expansion project being done by ITC Midwest.

The project, which will run for slightly longer than 15 miles from southwest of Hampton north into Cerro Gordo County, is essentially an expansion of an already existing power line currently owned by Corn Belt Power Cooperative.

The existing 161,000-volt transmission line will be expanded into a double-circuit 345,000-volt/161,000-volt transmission line held on single pole structures. Once complete, the new power line will be owned by Cedar Rapids-based ITC Midwest, a company that specializes in power transmission systems.
